This summer, for the first time ever, the National Beach Volleyball Finals 2013 will be taking place on the golden sands of Margate beach on 24 and 25 August. Thanet District Council will be hosting the event which attracts top players throughout the UK and across Europe and will be the biggest beach volleyball tournament in the country this year.
Having hosted qualifying heats for the past six years and being named ‘Best Event’ on tour for the past four, Volleyball England have rewarded the Margate Masters venue with the prestigious finals. They beat tough competition from other coastal towns across the country. Players will be battling it out to qualify for the Margate Finals throughout the summer’s other events at Weymouth, Weston Super Mare, Great Yarmouth and Skegness.
Thanet District Council’s sport and leisure department has been working closely with Volleyball England to host the event, with the aim to encourage people of all ages to come along and participate in a fun and energetic sport. The National Finals will be the biggest beach volleyball tournament in the country this year.
The event will provide Thanet’s residents and visitors with a fantastic opportunity to sit in free grandstand seating to watch an elite sport. As well as music and entertainment throughout the weekend’s event, people will have the chance to get involved and try beach volleyball out for themselves at the permanent Beach Sports Court on Margate Sands, all for FREE.
Volleyball is extremely popular and after an amazing summer of sport in 2012, where the UK welcomed the Olympic Games to London people have developed a real knowledge and interest in spectator sports, such as beach volleyball.

Our sport and leisure department have been working extremely hard alongside Volleyball England to organise the event, and I am sure it will be a great success.
“The event continues to develop year after year and not only does it create a fun and friendly atmosphere for local residents, it also attracts a vast amount of tourism to our beautiful coast. This is a great way for Margate to embrace the 2012 Olympic legacy and we are thrilled to be part of such a prestigious event.”
