WORK STARTS ON PIERREMONT HALL

Scaffolding has been erected at Pierremont Hall in Broadstairs, signalling the start of improvement works for the much-loved Grade II-listed building.
Built in 1792, three-storey Pierremont Hall has a rich history, and once accommodated the Duchess of Kent and Princess Victoria, who stayed there in 1826.
And since then the Thanet District Council-owned building has always played an integral part in the character of Broadstairs.
But over the years, Pierremont Hall has been exposed to the elements, leading to some parts of its structure needing improvement.  However, the council has allocated an initial sum of £25,000 for phase one work from its repairs fund to repaint the building – including the windows. Other repairs and maintenance will also be carried out.
It’s hoped that some of the work will be completed by Christmas, weather conditions permitting.
Thanet District Council’s Cabinet Director for Operational Services, Cllr Alan Poole, said: “I’m very pleased that work has now started on Pierremont Hall. The repairs and redecoration will make all the difference to this wonderful building.”
