FREE HALF TERM SPORTS ACTIVITIES

StreetGames, a wet'n'wild session, and ten-pin bowling are just some of the sporting activities on offer to young people in Thanet this October half term.

The programme, from the council's Sport 4 NRG team, kicks off on Monday 24 October with football at Dane Valley, followed by ten-pin bowling at Bugsy's Bowl in Cliftonville the next evening.

Wednesday 26 October sees the Sport 4 NRG team heading over to Westgate for a session of StreetGames between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. It's designed to be a roaming session, with the team, in partnership with Pie Factory Music, aiming to engage with any young people who are hanging around. Some of the games on offer will include basketball and street football.

Hartsdown Leisure Centre in Margate plays host to two sessions. The first is volleyball on Wednesday 26 October, with the chance to get Wet'n'Wild the next afternoon.

You can also try out streetdance at the Marlowe Academy in Ramsgate on Thursday 28 October, while the week's activities finish on Friday 28 October, with a session at the Quarterdeck Youth Centre in Cliftonville. Football, table tennis and dance sessions are on offer during the evening.

The Dane Valley football sessions takes place throughout the year, with another football session each week at Dame Janet School in Ramsgate on a Monday evening. Streetdance is also held weekly at the Marlowe, with another session at Hartsdown on a Wednesday afternoon.

Other weekly sessions include indoor volleyball at Hartsdown on a Wednesday afternoon, basketball at Ramsgate Sports Centre on a Wednesday evening and ten-pin bowling at Bugsy's on a Friday evening.

Cllr. Chris Wells, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: "Our Sport 4 NRG team provide a wide and varied range of sporting activities for young people on their doorstep year round. That's complimented by more unusual events during the school holidays. Not only is it a good way to stay or get active, the sessions are fully supervised and free of charge, so it's a great way to spend your free time."

Sport 4 NRG is open to young people between the ages of 11 and 17 and all the half term activities are free. For more information and details of times, visit www.thanet.gov.uk/sport
